CIMB’s September bonus interest promotion gives account holders another way to earn more on qualifying fresh funds. 💰

Already holding a CIMB FastSaver, FastSaver-i, StarSaver, StarSaver-i, StarSaver (Savings) or StarSaver (Savings)-i account? Add at least S$10,000 in qualifying incremental fresh funds during the promotion period to earn an additional 0.90% p.a. bonus interest for Personal Banking or 1.00% p.a. for Preferred Banking, subject to the applicable conditions.

For existing customers, the qualifying account must have been held before 1 September 2026. The promotion is available to main or joint account holders of a qualifying account, subject to CIMB’s promotion terms.

⚠️ Important eligibility check for existing customers: A qualifying account will not qualify for this September promotion if a minimum S$10,000 Incremental Balance in fresh funds was already deposited into that account from 1 to 31 August 2026. Check the August funding history before moving fresh funds.

What existing CIMB customers need to do

  1. Hold an eligible CIMB FastSaver or StarSaver family account that was already open before the promotion began.
  2. Deposit at least S$10,000 in incremental fresh funds during the promotion period.
  3. Ensure the month-end incremental balance on 30 September is at least S$10,000 higher than the account’s end-of-day balance on 31 August 2026.
  4. Maintain at least S$10,000 in Daily Incremental Balance on each relevant day during the Bonus Interest/Profit Earning Period to qualify for the bonus on that day.
  5. Keep the qualifying account open through bonus crediting, as closing the account means the promotional Bonus Interest/Profit will not be applied.

Fresh funds must come from outside CIMB Bank. Transfers from an existing CIMB current, savings or fixed deposit account do not count, and withdrawing money from an existing CIMB account before redepositing it into the qualifying account does not turn those funds into qualifying fresh funds.

Important: the bonus earning period continues into October

The September promotion does more than look at the top-up made during September. The Bonus Interest/Profit Earning Period covers September and October 2026. After the S$10,000 threshold has been funded, the Daily Incremental Balance must remain at least S$10,000 on each day for bonus interest to apply for that day. Bonus Interest/Profit is limited to an Incremental Balance of S$1,000,000 per eligible account; any incremental amount above that receives no promotional bonus.

Promotional Bonus Interest/Profit is accrued daily and is scheduled to be credited into the qualifying account on 30 November 2026. If the crediting date falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment moves to the next working day.

⚠️ Separate FastSaver add-on conditions apply: The 0.50% p.a. salary/GIRO add-on and 1.00% p.a. CIMB Visa Signature add-on are separate promotions with their own qualifying rules. A recurring-transfer route is not satisfied simply by making a S$1,000 FAST or PayNow transfer, while the Visa Signature add-on requires an eligible Principal Cardmember to meet at least S$800 in qualifying spend posted within the relevant statement month. Both additional rates apply only to the first S$25,000 of the qualifying FastSaver/FastSaver-i balance. Check the respective terms before including either add-on when estimating returns.

Important rate note: The advertised up-to 2.48% p.a. and 2.58% p.a. figures are not flat rates on the whole account balance. Prevailing interest/profit is tiered by account balance, while the September CASA bonus is 0.90% p.a. for Personal Banking or 1.00% p.a. for Preferred Banking on eligible Incremental Balance, capped at S$1,000,000 per eligible account. FastSaver/FastSaver-i also has separate salary or recurring-GIRO and CIMB Visa Signature add-ons on the first S$25,000, subject to their respective terms, so the 2.58% figure should be read as this CASA promotion’s headline rate rather than the absolute maximum return available under every FastSaver combination.

A closer look at the S$10,000 requirement

The key figure is not simply the amount transferred into the account. Eligibility is measured against the 31 August 2026 end-of-day balance. For example, an existing account ending August with S$1,000 would generally need an end-of-day balance of at least S$11,000 to represent a S$10,000 Incremental Balance, assuming all other promotion requirements are met.

If the incremental amount later falls below S$10,000 on a particular day during the earning period, promotional Bonus Interest/Profit is not earned for that day. Keeping sufficient qualifying fresh funds in the account therefore matters even though the promotion does not describe the deposit as a conventional fixed-term lock-in.

Preferred BankingS$1,000S$11,000S$4.52S$8.22S$12.74

This CIMB example shows that the prevailing component is calculated on the S$11,000 account balance while the promotional bonus is calculated on the S$10,000 Incremental Balance. Actual returns vary with applicable balance tiers, qualifying days and account conditions.

How much can different fresh-funds top-ups effectively earn?

The headline rate does not apply evenly to every dollar deposited because CIMB’s prevailing interest rates are tiered. The illustration below shows the approximate effective annualised rate attributable to different fresh-funds top-ups for an existing customer. It assumes an account balance of S$1,000 as at 31 August 2026, the fresh funds are deposited on 1 September 2026 and maintained, and all promotion requirements are met.

StarSaver account type matters: The StarSaver calculations below use the S$1,000 starting-balance assumption and therefore correspond to StarSaver (Savings) / StarSaver (Savings)-i. CIMB lists a S$5,000 minimum balance to earn prevailing interest/profit for StarSaver / StarSaver-i current accounts, so the calculated effective rates can differ for those variants.

S$5,000,000About 0.69% p.a.About 0.71% p.a.About 1.10% p.a.About 1.12% p.a.

How to read the table: These are calculated, illustrative effective p.a. rates on the fresh-funds top-up, not official flat rates quoted by CIMB. They combine the prevailing interest attributable to the additional balance with the 0.90% p.a. Personal Banking or 1.00% p.a. Preferred Banking promotional bonus. FastSaver salary/GIRO and CIMB Visa Signature additional-interest offers are excluded.

For example, a S$500,000 fresh-funds top-up into StarSaver under these assumptions spans several prevailing-rate tiers. The prevailing interest attributable to the top-up works out to about 1.216% p.a.; adding the promotional bonus gives approximately 2.12% p.a. for Personal Banking or 2.22% p.a. for Preferred Banking.

⚠️ Depositing more than S$1 million does not earn the promotional bonus on the excess. CIMB caps Bonus Interest/Profit at S$1,000,000 of Incremental Balance per eligible account. This is why the effective promotional return falls noticeably in the S$2 million and S$5 million examples.

Actual interest earned can differ if the starting balance is different, fresh funds arrive after 1 September, the balance changes during the earning period, or the account crosses different prevailing-interest tiers.

💡 What fresh-funds amount gives the highest blended rate?

If the aim is to maximise the blended effective interest rate on fresh funds, rather than simply earn the greatest number of interest dollars, there is a sweet spot for each account because CIMB’s prevailing rates change by balance tier.

AccountIllustrative fresh-funds sweet spotResulting account balancePersonal Banking effective rate on fresh fundsPreferred Banking effective rate on fresh funds
FastSaverAbout S$74,000S$75,000About 1.96% p.a.About 2.06% p.a.
StarSaver (Savings)/(Savings)-iAbout S$999,000S$1,000,000About 2.30% p.a.About 2.40% p.a.

Why S$74,000 for FastSaver? With an existing S$1,000 balance, a S$74,000 top-up brings the account to exactly S$75,000. This captures the full S$25,000 balance tier earning 1.58% p.a. prevailing interest. Any additional balance above S$75,000 falls back to a prevailing rate of 0.50% p.a., so the blended effective rate on the fresh funds starts to decline.

Why S$999,000 for StarSaver? With an existing S$1,000 balance, a S$999,000 top-up brings the account to exactly S$1 million. This makes full use of StarSaver’s higher prevailing-rate tiers through the S$1 million account-balance mark. Balance above S$1 million moves into the lower 0.80% p.a. prevailing tier, causing the blended rate to ease.

⚠️ The exact best top-up depends on the account balance as at 31 August 2026. The S$74,000 and S$999,000 illustrations assume a S$1,000 starting balance. If the starting balance is below the relevant target, the required fresh-funds amount is roughly the difference between that balance and the target of S$75,000 for FastSaver or S$1 million for StarSaver (Savings). If the starting balance is already at or above the target, these illustrated sweet spots no longer apply and the effective rate should be recalculated from the actual starting balance.

The figures are calculated illustrations rather than flat rates quoted by CIMB. They include the 0.90% p.a. Personal Banking or 1.00% p.a. Preferred Banking CASA promotional bonus on qualifying Incremental Balance and exclude FastSaver salary/GIRO and CIMB Visa Signature additional-interest offers. Actual interest depends on qualifying balances and the number of eligible days.

Full conditions are available in the CIMB CASA Bonus Interest/Profit Promotion 2026 terms and conditions (PDF). The promotion is not valid in conjunction with other promotional offers unless otherwise stated. The August 2026 CASA Bonus Interest/Profit Promotion is one example specifically mentioned in the September terms.

For an existing CIMB customer with qualifying funds outside the bank, this promotion can add 0.90% p.a. or 1.00% p.a. in Bonus Interest/Profit on eligible incremental balances. The most important checks are the 31 August comparison balance, the S$10,000 minimum, the daily balance requirement through the earning period and the S$1 million promotional cap. 💹
