Update: Bank of China S’pore Offers Up to 1.8% Time Deposit Promo Rates From 21 Sep 2026

Bank of China Singapore’s Personal Time Deposit promotion is now running from 14 September 2026, offering mobile banking promotional rates of up to 1.75% p.a. on new SGD placements made through BOC Mobile Banking 📱.

The top 1.75% p.a. tier requires a minimum placement of S$200,000 and is available for 6, 9 and 12 months. The lower entry tier starts from S$500, with rates ranging from 1.10% to 1.70% p.a. depending on tenor.

Compared with BOC’s immediately preceding schedule, the only change in the listed SGD new-placement rates is the S$500 12-month rate, which rises by 0.05 percentage point from 1.65% p.a. to 1.70% p.a. 💹. The other listed SGD rates are unchanged from that schedule. Looking further back to the 17 Aug 2026 update, the 5-month S$500 rate has also risen from 1.35% p.a. to 1.50% p.a.

📈 Looking only at BOC’s standard SGD new-placement schedule, the top listed rate moved from 1.45% p.a. on 22 Jun to 1.50% from 29 Jun, 1.55% in late Jul and 3 Aug, 1.65% from 10 Aug, and 1.75% from 17 Aug onward.

18 months1.40% p.a.1.55% p.a.
24 months1.40% p.a.–

💡 What the 1.75% p.a. rate means

The quoted rates are annualised. A six-month placement at 1.75% p.a., for example, does not earn a full 1.75% of principal over six months. Using a simple pro-rata illustration, S$200,000 at 1.75% p.a. works out to roughly S$1,750 over 6 months, S$2,625 over 9 months and S$3,500 over 12 months. Actual interest credited can depend on the bank’s calculation method, exact placement and maturity dates, and any applicable withdrawal conditions.

Since the same 1.75% p.a. annualised rate applies at the S$200,000 tier for 6, 9 and 12 months, the choice largely comes down to preferred lock-in period and liquidity needs. A shorter tenor returns the funds sooner, while a longer tenor keeps the promotional rate locked in for longer.

Several current Singapore fixed-deposit promotions offer comparable or higher headline rates, but the minimum placement, tenor, customer tier and funding requirements differ materially. The examples below are useful context rather than like-for-like substitutes:

OfferHeadline rateTenor at headline rateMinimum placementImportant condition

HL Bank fixed deposit rates from 4 Sep 2026Up to 2.00% p.a.24 monthsS$10,000 onlineThe 6-, 12- and 18-month online rates are 1.70%, 1.80% and 1.88% p.a. respectively; the 2.00% headline requires a 24-month lock-in
RHB SGD fixed deposit rates from 11 Sep 2026Up to 1.80% p.a.6 or 12 monthsS$20,0001.80% applies to Premier Banking; Personal Banking receives 1.70% p.a. for the same tenors

💡 BOC’s 1.75% p.a. rate is therefore not the highest headline fixed-deposit rate currently available in Singapore, and its S$200,000 threshold is materially higher than several alternatives. Higher rates elsewhere can, however, require fresh funds, a particular banking tier or a longer lock-in period, so headline percentages should not be compared in isolation.

📝 Things to know before placing

  • 📱 Mobile placement: Promotional rates apply to new SGD time deposit placements made through BOC Mobile Banking.
  • 🏦 Account requirement: A BOC Savings Account or Current Account is required to make a time deposit placement through mobile banking.
  • 👤 Eligibility: SGD Time Deposit applicants must be at least 15 years old. Eligible applicants include Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and foreigners holding a Work Pass, Student Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass or Dependant Pass.
  • 📈 Rate confirmation: Promotional rates are indicative and apply to personal customers. The rate at the point of placement applies. If the rate published on BOC’s website differs from the rate available through mobile banking or at the counter, BOC says the mobile-banking or counter rate prevails. For this mobile-only promotion, confirm the rate shown in BOC Mobile Banking immediately before submission.
  • ⏰ Overnight placements: Rates displayed between 12.00am and 6.00am are indicative and subject to change. The actual rate is confirmed on BOC’s website and mobile app after 6.00am on the same day.
  • ⚠️ Premature withdrawal: Withdrawing a time deposit before maturity may lead to a loss of interest. Check the applicable terms for the selected tenor before confirming.
  • ✅ Final checks: Verify the placement amount, tenor, displayed interest rate, maturity date and funding account before submitting the transaction.
  • 📋 Standard eligibility requirements, placement conditions and prevailing bank terms apply.

📱 How to place the time deposit

  1. Log in to the BOC Mobile Banking App.
  2. Select the Time Deposit placement function.
  3. Choose SGD, select the preferred tenor and enter the placement amount.
  4. Review the displayed rate, maturity date and funding account.
  5. Confirm the placement after checking all transaction details.

Once a BOC Savings Account or Current Account and Mobile Banking access are in place, the time deposit can be placed without visiting a branch. Existing customers who have not registered for Mobile Banking can register through Personal Online Banking or at a BOC branch.

💰 Compare the lock-in period, placement amount, available liquidity and deposit-insurance considerations before committing funds. The highest 1.75% p.a. rate can be attractive for qualifying balances, while the S$500 tier provides a much lower entry point with several tenor options.
