Tips From Your Friendly Guardian Pharmacist
Fix a bedtime and waking time. – Your body can get used to sleeping at a certain time if you fix it regularly. Even if you are retired or stay-at-home mom, this is a good sleeping habit.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol 4-6 hours before sleeping time. – While alcohol can induce sleep, its effect can reverse and act as a stimulant few hours later. Caffeine can be found in coffee, tea, soft drinks and even chocolates.
Associate your bed with sleep. – It is not ideal to use your bed to watch TV, listen to the radio, do work or read, as it may stimulate your mind and cause sleeplessness.
Minimize noise, light and temperature extremes during sleep. – Ear plugs and window blinds and curtains can reduce noise and light. Set your air conditioner to a comfortable level, not too hot and not too cold. Ideally, your bedroom should remind you of a cave.
Avoid taking long naps. – Doing some activity like washing the dishes or going for a walk can reduce after meals drowsiness.
