COE premiums climbed across all categories in Singapore’s May 2026 first bidding exercise ๐น
The latest Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bidding exercise ended at 4:00pm on 6 May 2026, with premiums moving higher across every category ๐. The increases covered small cars, larger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and the Open Category, showing continued firm demand in the vehicle ownership market.
Compared with the Apr 2026 second bidding exercise, all five categories recorded gains. For buyers, dealers and businesses, the higher COE component is worth factoring into budgets, especially for purchases involving Cat B, Cat C or Cat E COEs.

Biggest movements this round ๐
Category B saw the largest dollar increase, rising by S$5,235 to S$126,236. This category applies to cars above 1,600cc or above 97kW, as well as fully electric cars above 110kW, so the increase may be especially relevant for higher-powered models.
Category C also posted a sizeable jump of S$3,978, reaching S$87,479. This matters for companies operating goods vehicles and buses, including logistics, delivery, construction, transport and service-based businesses ๐. Higher Cat C premiums can add pressure to fleet renewal and operating costs.
Category E, the Open Category, rose by S$2,698 to S$127,700. Since Cat E can be used for any motor vehicle except motorcycles, it is often watched closely as a broader signal of demand in the COE market.
Category A climbed by S$1,780 to S$124,790, while Category D for motorcycles increased by S$162 to S$9,452 ๐๏ธ.
What each COE category covers ๐ค
Category A covers non-fully electric cars up to 1,600cc and up to 97kW, as well as fully electric cars up to 110kW ๐โก.
Category B applies to non-fully electric cars above 1,600cc or above 97kW, plus fully electric cars above 110kW ๐.
Category C is for goods vehicles and buses, making it particularly relevant for business owners and operators managing commercial fleets ๐.
Category D covers motorcycles ๐๏ธ.
Category E is the Open Category and can be used to register any motor vehicle except motorcycles. In practice, Open Category COEs are mainly used for larger cars.

The May 2026 first COE bidding exercise delivered a clean sweep of increases, reinforcing how competitive Singapore’s vehicle ownership landscape remains. With every category moving higher, careful budgeting remains important for households, riders and businesses weighing new vehicle purchases. For existing vehicles, renewal costs are handled through the separate Prevailing Quota Premium (PQP), which moves with recent COE premiums over time.
