From 15 July 2014, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will use Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at 10 more locations to enforce against illegal parking.
With this implementation, CCTVs will be used to enforce against illegal parking at 20 locations. The number of spots will be further increased to 30 by October 2014.
The 30 locations are public roads throughout the island, and they are selected based on the following considerations:
- A high incidence of illegal parking, typically daily and throughout the day.
- Illegal parking impedes the smooth flow of public buses, particularly where the roads serve a high number of public bus services.
- Illegal parking raises safety concerns for pedestrians and road users and/or lead to chronic traffic congestions.
- High concentration of pedestrian activities such as in the CBD, and/or proximity to popular malls, amenities and eateries.
When activated, locations will be monitored by CCTVs for parking offences on a 24-hour basis. Motorists can easily identify locations that are monitored by CCTVs, as they are clearly demarcated by parking restriction lines as well as signs to highlight their presence in the area.
In addition, available lamp posts or sign posts within the CCTV monitoring zone will also be painted with a vertical strip in a bright orange colour.
Motorists are encouraged to observe parking regulations to ensure safe and smooth traffic conditions.
