With the Christmas and New Year holidays coming up on 25 December 2015 and 1 January 2016, traffic flow through the land checkpoints at Woodlands and Tuas is expected to be heavy.

Travellers intending to use the land checkpoints during the peak periods should take note of the following messages:

Traffic volume at the two land checkpoints is expected to build up from Wednesday (23 December 2015) and will continue till Sunday (3 January 2016). Travellers using the land checkpoints during this period can expect delays.

With security checks, traffic build-up is inevitable, especially when a large number of travellers use the checkpoints at the same time. Travellers are advised to adjust their travel plans if possible, to avoid a surge of travellers and vehicles seeking clearance at the land checkpoints.

Delays at the checkpoints can also be caused by travellers using passports belonging to someone else, or those that are invalid. These include using passports that were previously reported as lost or stolen, an offence punishable by a fine of up to $10,000, a 10-year prison term or both. Between January and October this year, there were 622 Singaporeans found using such passports at the two checkpoints.

Such cases will cause delays and inconvenience to the passport holders as well as other checkpoint users. Recovered passports should be returned to the ICA, and failure to do so can result in a $3,000 fine or imprisonment of up to two years or both. To enjoy a smoother experience, travellers are reminded to check and ensure that they bring their rightful and valid passports for immigration clearance.

Useful Tips When Using the Checkpoints:

1. Travllers are encouraged to car-pool where possible.
2. Drivers should maintain lane discipline at all times.
3. Eligible users (Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and Long Team Pass holders) are encouraged to use the enhanced Immigration Automated Clearance System (eIACS) lanes at the bus halls for immigration clearance.
4. Travellers are to ensure that they are carrying their own and valid passports before presenting them for immigration clearance at the checkpoints; and
5. Travellers are to make sure that they do not bring unlawful or prohibited goods into or out of Singapore.

Motorists are also advised to check on the traffic situation at both land checkpoints before embarking on their journey. Travellers leaving Singapore by Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint will be able to know in advance the traffic situation from LTA’s Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) installed along the AYE and BKE respectively.
