Making things better for the many through Democratic Design

Get curious about the new collections as every IKEA product has a story to tell. From exploring the possibility of developing furniture out of paper pulp, to discovering the 24-hour life of a sofa, these stories all share the IKEA vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people.

One of the highlights of the new Catalogue is a section featuring 13 feature stories that take readers on a journey around the world showcasing how IKEA connects to a multitude of people in varied cultures.”

Every year, IKEA lets their curiosity take them into the lives at home of people all over the globe. This year’s Life at Home report gained insights into what actually makes a home for people today, especially in an ever-changing world. The survey was conducted in 12 cities around the world with more than 12,000 respondents. In redefining life at home, the survey looks at the home from four perspectives: space, things, relationships and place.

It was found that the home is regarded as the place where important relationships are built (48%); and that smell was the strongest sense that people associated the most with home, with as many as 40% saying their homes have a unique smell. The study also revealed that people valued the emotional aspects of things (78%) more than their practical functions (22%), and that few associate home with a geographic place anymore, with more heading out of the house to get that feeling of home, whether it is at the gym or neighbourhood.

Catalogue 2017 sneak peeks – new products, services and healthier food offerings

To tease people’s interest of upcoming collections in the year, the Catalogue 2017 features two stunning examples – SÄLLSKAP and PS 2017. Inspired by traditional Swedish design, the limited edition SÄLLSKAP collection focuses on print patterns and dining pieces in solid materials.

The long awaited IKEA PS 2017 is as free, fun and flexible as the urban lifestyles it serves. A collaborative effort with 21 designers, the collection explores sustainable new materials and techniques in 60 new products made from recycled wood, plastic and glass. More collections will also be released throughout the year.

Another new experience which customers can also look forward to while shopping at the IKEA Singapore stores in 2017, are enhanced offerings at the I-Counters. They can soon pay for full-served items at the showrooms instead of joining the cashier queues. Further down the pipeline, they will also have the choice of paying for self-served items, or opt for Picking with Delivery service, which comes with Assembly options.

A Track and Trace system will also be implemented for customers who have opted for home delivery services to track the delivery status of their order via the IKEA website, which allows them greater control and clarity of their purchases.

Food lovers can also look forward to new offerings. With an aim to serve healthier and more sustainable meal choices to customers, IKEA is introducing a new dish – Chicken ball with boiled potatoes, lingonberry jam & cream sauce, available at the IKEA Restaurants from 25 August 2016 onwards at $6.00 per 10pcs.

Furthermore, the IKEA Catalogue app sees a revamp this year to cater to customers who want to explore deeper into the catalogue content. More than just a digital catalogue, the app’s new enhancements include an easier navigation experience, a more intuitive menu and extensive filmed material to experience the real life 3D feeling of the home furnishing solutions. The enhanced app also allows readers to seamlessly connect with the latest version of Apple TV to enjoy the IKEA catalogue on a TV at home. These features will be available in early September 2016.

Designed against a matte grey frame enhanced with a rust and oil-free belt drive as well as a “click system”, the customisable unisex bike strikes a tasteful balance between simplicity and functionality.
