New operating systems (OS) add new features and functionality to electronic devices whether they’re smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktops. Meet Microsoft’s new OS, Windows 8, which is designed to work on all these devices and offer users added flexibility.
Here are some tips about Windows 8 from Harvey Norman, as well as some notebook offers and Philips kitchenware electronics offers
Easy navigation – Windows 8 has been built with touchscreens in mind, but it still works great with a mouse and keyboard. Its start screen now features “tiles” that can be pressed or clicked on to launch apps or open links. A favourite website or app, for instance, can be placed on the start screen for instant access once Windows 8 boots.
Live updates – Live tiles are updated in real time and display useful information on the tile itself. Information such as new emails can be displayed on a tile, even if an app isn’t in use, so users can keep up to date with information that matters to them.
Charms – Windows 8 may have a new graphical user interface, but it still offers quick links to oftenused features. Termed “charms”, these appear as an overlay on the right side of a screen and provide quick access to features such as search, sharing and hardware devices. The search charm lets users find data across a variety of locations, such as apps, the Internet and even settings.
Sharing – The share charm makes it easy to share content between different apps. Windows 8 gives users the option of pinning content from within apps for easy access. The Windows Store offers a wide selection of apps that users can try before buying.
Skydrive – This nifty feature offers 7GB of free storage online, so users can store files they need and access them from any web-connected device.
Stay connected – Users can add apps to their Microsoft account to stay connected to the various services they use. For example, the People app lets users include contacts from their social networking and email apps. This makes it easy to see what’s new, post a comment, or start a conversation. Users can also sync contacts and settings across all their Windows 8 devices.
Stay productive – Multi-tasking is easy since users can snap two apps next to each other, even on touchscreen tablets. Users who prefer the familiar Windows desktop can still access this as well.
Flexibility – All Windows 8 devices, including tablets, will also offer USB ports, allowing users to connect external devices such as thumbdrives and printers.
