Frequent travellers or anyone who is looking for a convenient yet powerful compact camera to shoot high-quality shots on-the-go need look no further than the affordable Canon PowerShot SX510 HS and PowerShot SX170 IS.

With up to 30x zoom capability and features such as the Zoom Framing Assist function which helps keep moving subjects in focus, the super-zoom compact cameras remain handy without compromising on functionality. The Wi-Fi enabled PowerShot SX510 HS also allow easy connectivity for users to conveniently share pictures on their social networking sites.

“Along with being highly convenient and portable, these two power-packed compacts provide users and holiday makers alike with advanced functions such as ZoomPlus and Advanced Zoom Frame Assist mode. These features aim to help users better commemorate the special moments in life, through enhanced and correctly composed photographs,” said Edwin Teoh, Assistant Director for Consumer Business Marketing, Canon Singapore.

Power, quality-zoom in the hands

The PowerShot SX510 HS and PowerShot SX170 IS bring the convenience of capturing high quality images from a distance up another notch. Along with its predecessors in the PowerShot SX-series, the PowerShot SX510 HS and PowerShot SX170 IS continue to offer high optical zooms of up to 30x and 16x respectively. Additionally, this optical zoom range can be doubled to 60x and 32x while maintaining high image clarity when the ZoomPlus technology mode is activated.

The 12.1-megapixel PowerShot SX510HS employs the High Sensitivity (HS) system, which integrates the high speed CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 image processor and high precision lens make-up to create high-quality photos that are natural looking even in low light conditions. Coupled with a 24mm wide-angle lens, the camera is not only able to shoot images from far distances but in wide angles as well.

PowerShot SX170 IS

The 16.0-megapixel PowerShot SX170 IS, which uses a 28mm wide angle lens, draws on the renowned Image Stablizer (IS) technology to ensure that sharp and clear photos can be achieved. This technology is especially important when the zoom range of the camera is extended to the far end at 448mm whereby any slight movement of the hand can result in blur photos.

PowerShot SX510HS

The PowerShot SX510 HS and PowerShot SX170 IS compact cameras both run on the DIGIC 4 image processor and feature HD movie capabilities. The PowerShot SX510 HS also supports the recording of 1080p Full HD video at 24 frames per second (fps) in stereo sound and a HDMI terminal. The camera’s DIGIC 4 image processor allows movies to be captured in Super Slow Motion, an ideal function for those looking to capture detailed and intricate movements.

Beyond being able to capture objects from a far distance, the PowerShot SX 510 HS also supports macro shooting with zero cm minimum focusing distance – this literally means that the subject can touch the lens – while the PowerShot SX170 IS supports macro shooting with 1cm minimum focusing distance.

Advanced Zoom Framing Assist feature keeps moving subject in focus

Keeping subjects in focus will no longer be an issue with the Zoom Framing Assist function. Acknowledging a common issue faced by users whereby subjects are easily lost when they move out of view, the angle of view in the PowerShot SX510 HS has been widened when the Zoom Framing Assist button is held down, thus allowing the subject to be visible while maintaining the desired magnification. When the Zoom Framing Assist button is released, the camera returns to the desired zoom state of the user.

Subjects moving towards the camera can be tracked while retaining the desired zoom range via the Zoom Framing Assist feature. When faces are detected, the camera automatically retains the zoom with a click of the Zoom Framing Assist button. When the subject approaches, the camera automatically zooms out to track the moving subject and when the subject becomes distant from zooming out, the camera automatically zooms in to the desired magnification.

High speed Auto Focus shooting

Both models feature significantly enhanced auto focus speeds of 0.9 seconds and a reduction in shooting time lag, meaning missed photo opportunities will be minimized when shooting with the new PowerShot SX510 HS and SX170 IS.

With faster continuous shooting in both cameras, the PowerShot SX510 HS achieves an impressive 10.5 frames per second (fps) speed at High Speed burst mode while the PowerShot SX170 IS achieves a 3.2 fps speed at Continuous shooting (low light) mode.

Share photos wirelessly

Photos and videos captured on the PowerShot SX510 HS can be conveniently shared wirelessly with the advanced built-in Wi-Fi feature. This removes the need to go through a PC or laptop when uploading photos and videos on the Internet.

Users can also connect and synchronise photos easily between the Canon Image Gateway (CIG) and their PC. On top of the supported existing social media sites such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, photos can now also be uploaded directly onto Flickr.

Smart AUTO decides the camera modes for user automatically

Both the new PowerShot SX510 HS and SX170 IS come with the Smart AUTO function which automatically detects scenes by assessing various shooting conditions in both the background and the subject.

A total of 32 pre-determined shooting situations (sunset, moving people, etc) can be detected and the Intelligent IS will apply the appropriate optical image stabilization in accordance to the shooting environments.
