In its 39th year, the project returns with the aim to help low-income families alleviate their financial burden by providing free pre-loved textbooks.
Besides reaching out to needy families which is even more crucial during unprecedented times, it also promotes environmental sustainability through reusing and recycling of textbooks.
This year, 81 selected FairPrice stores including Warehouse Club, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice Finest stores, selected supermarkets, and FairPrice Xpress outlets at Esso service stations will serve as donation drop-off points from today (26 October) to 30 November 2021
Over 2,100 volunteers from community partners and schools, along with FairPrice staff and members of the general public, have also signed up to assist in collecting, sorting and organising textbooks. This is the highest number of volunteers the project has attracted since it was introduced 39 years ago – a 20 per cent increase compared to last year which saw the participation of over 1,800 volunteers.
Since its inception, FairPrice Share-A-Textbook has collected, redistributed, and recycled over 6 million textbooks. This year, FairPrice is calling for the continued support from members of the community to donate their used textbooks at the designated collection points. Strict safety measures in place to ensure the well-being of volunteers and members of the public
To ensure the safety of the public and volunteers, various measures will be introduced to adhere to safe distancing measures. These measures include safe entry for contact tracing, checking of vaccination status, regular temperature taking, providing gloves and hand sanitizers to volunteers, limiting the number of volunteers per area, and implementing a booking system of time-slots to facilitate the collection of books.
This year, the textbooks collection area will be divided into three zones with a cap on the total number of people – including beneficiaries, members of the public and volunteers – allowed into each zone at any given time. Forms for the pre-booking of collection time slots will be made available for beneficiaries under the priority scheme and the public – a total of 10 hourly collection time slots are available each day, and each booking limits a total of two pax for collection of textbooks. (For more information, please refer here or email fptextbook@fairprice.com.sg). High-touch surfaces within the collection zones will also be sanitised after the end of each session.
FairPrice will work with social service organisations and Community Development Councils (CDCs) to shortlist students from low-income families, or families who have been impacted by the Covid-19 situation, where they will be given priority to collect textbooks before access is given to the general public. The books will be available for the public to collect from 11 to 15 December 2021 at Our Tampines Hub. The number of distribution days will extend from two days in previous years to five days to facilitate collection of books in adherence to Covid-19 safety measures.
What and when is the donation period?
This year, members of the public donate their pre-loved textbooks for the project at 81 FairPrice stores island wide, including Warehouse Club, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice Finest stores, selected FairPrice supermarkets, and FairPrice Xpress stores at Esso service stations. Please refer below for the full list of stores where you can donate your textbooks at.
The donation period is from 26th October to 30th November 2021. All books collected will be sent for sorting before distribution.
What type of pre-loved textbooks can one donate?
All textbooks that are in the current syllabus and in usable condition (i.e. no torn / missing pages and no scribbling).

Will FairPrice take in assessment books, story books or encyclopedias?
Yes. They will be sorted under the ‘Reference / Others’ category for collection.
When is the public* distribution period?
Members of the public are welcome to pick up pre-loved textbooks from 12th to 15th December 2021 at Arena @ Our Tampines Hub, 1 Tampines Walk, Singapore 528523. However, please pre-book your preferred date and time-slot before the distribution
* In addition to the above four days, students under the Priority Collection Scheme may also choose to pick up your textbooks on 11th December 2021.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, what safety measures are in place for the distribution event?
In view of the COVID-19 safety guidelines and to safeguard your well-being, a series of safety measures will be implemented. These include:
- Extension of public collection days from one to four; an additional day is made available for students under the priority collection scheme to choose from.
- Ten hourly time-slots will be made available for booking per day. This is to minimise crowding at the venue and allow volunteers to sanitise the collection zones at the end of every time-slot.
- Temperature taking and Safe Entry procedures are compulsory before admission into the collection zones.
- You are required to bring along your TraceTogether token or activate your mobile application during the distribution drive.
- You are required to provide proof of your vaccination status. Unvaccinated individuals will be refused entry to the event venue.
- A maximum number of two pax per booking will be allowed into the collection zone for a period of 30-minutes to select your textbooks.
- There will be a maximum number of two volunteers per academic level to provide assistance where necessary.
- 30-minutes will be used for sanitising the collection zones at the end of every time-slot..
- A safe-distancing agent will be assigned at the collection zone to ensure the adherence to safety guidelines.
- Should you feel unwell on-site, please approach our volunteers or safe-distancing agent for assistance.
