NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) has announced that it will be extending its Pioneer Generation (PG) Discount scheme for another six months, until 30 June 2019, which is estimated to cost more than $2 million.
Since the scheme was introduced in 2014, it has disbursed more than $16 million in discounts to PG members. This year alone, PG members who shopped at FairPrice saved over $4.45 million through the scheme.
Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice said, “NTUC FairPrice was one of the first retailers to champion the national initiative to honour Singaporeans who have contributed to our country’s pioneering years and we continue to do so – long after others have ceased their support. We continue to renew our efforts to affirm our appreciation to our pioneers by extending the PG discount scheme for another six months so that they may continue to reap greater savings for daily essentials.”
In 2017, the PG Discount scheme was enhanced to include Thursdays, in addition to Mondays, where PG members may enjoy a three percent discount when they shop at all FairPrice supermarket and hypermarket outlets. This initiative complements the Seniors’ Discount Scheme, which sees all shoppers above the age of 60 enjoy a two percent discount on Tuesdays. FairPrice will continue to review the programme to ensure its alignment and relevance to its various ongoing initiatives and incentives to its customers.
To enjoy the PG Discount, PG members need to present their PG card, provided as part of the Pioneer Generation Package from the government, at cashier counters at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets.
PG priority queues to cease
PG priority queues, which were introduced in October 2014, aimed to honour PG members by giving them priority at selected check-out lanes. This initiative will be discontinued from 1 January 2019, having since fulfilled its objective.
Mr Seah added, “The PG priority queue initiative was introduced to raise awareness in customers in treating pioneers and seniors more graciously. We encourage the public and shoppers alike to continue to be considerate in their shopping etiquette going beyond designated queues as we cultivate a more gracious and kinder society.”
Customer notices will be put up to inform customers of the change and in-store collaterals will be progressively replaced
