The People’s Association Grassroots Organisations (PA GROs) will organise 17 heartland countdown celebrations on Tuesday, 31 December 2024, with each site having fun-filled engaging activities, for residents to usher in the New Year nearer to home.

The heartland celebrations, which are part of ONE Countdown 2025 to kick off SG60 celebrations, aim to bring families and friends together to celebrate, reflect, and share their resolutions for the New Year.

Organised by about 1,700 grassroots leaders and community volunteers – from dedicated students, working professionals, to seasoned seniors – who are eager to make a difference in their communities, the 17 heartland countdown celebrations promise to offer vibrant and inclusive programmes that bring joy and celebration to people of all ages. These events bring the spirit of unity, volunteerism, and community engagement.

Families can look forward to artistic experiences such as mural painting and exploring an interactive media art installation wall at Nee Soon Countdown 2025. At Illuminate 2025, that will be held at Bedok Stadium, residents can co-create a community artwork with renowned graffiti artist, Zero.

For those seeking sporting fun, Tampines Boogie Countdown to 2025 will feature K-pop random dance sessions led by various dance interest groups in Our Tampines Hub. Seniors can showcase their moves at a lively dance party at Holland-Bukit Timah GRC and Bukit Panjang SMC Year-End Countdown Celebrations @ Heartlands 2024. Residents can also enjoy sport try-outs conducted by ActiveSG at various heartland celebrations which include giant human bowling, zig zag golf, and inflatable archery.

This year, community participation is at the heart of the 17 heartland countdown celebrations. At MY Countdown, that will be held at Woodlands Stadium, a pop-up musical instrument exhibition will feature at least 15 traditional instruments contributed by volunteers, and residents will have the opportunity to try out these instruments. Meanwhile, about 100 students from River Valley High School will play a key role in Boon Lay Countdown 2025 – Be The Spark. A New Start, serving as planners and facilitators for the engagement booths at the event.

Over at Aljunied and Hougang, residents have come together to fold 2,025 origami cranes as blessings for the upcoming New Year, and their efforts will be showcased at Igniting Sparks of Hope. In addition, Tanjong Pagar GRC & Radin Mas SMC Countdown New-tro Night will feature an art piece, created from quilling materials contributed by residents, which symbolises community participation and the unique story of individuality.

Igniting Sparks of Hope

The celebration will feature a night bazaar offering traditional delights from various cultures.

Residents can enjoy performances ranging from local singers to an LED drum showcase. As part of SG60 celebrations, a new song written by a local songwriter, will be launched for Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC.

Aljunied and Hougang residents have also come together to fold 2,025 origami cranes with well-wishes for 2025. As midnight approaches, a video featuring 2,025 wishes from residents will usher in the New Year with a dazzling fireworks display.

Residents can look forward to a vibrant event space brimming with memory-making opportunities. Chill corners and Instagram-worthy photo spots including an F1 car, Super Trees, and a neon sign photo wall.

There will be a neon light display, carnival games, and traditional performances like
Getai and Xin Yao will blend with modern acts such as Singapura Samba percussion.

A digital message board, managed by youth volunteers, will display residents’ well- wishes for 2025. The celebration will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display.

Bishan-Toa

The celebration will feature local sports heroes and homegrown talent. The Lion City Sailors FC, currently leading the S-league, will meet and greet participants, networking with Pesta Sukan Community Championship winners, Team ‘Last Minute’ from Toa Payoh Central.

‘Bishan-Toa Payoh & Marymount’s Got Talent’ will showcase local artists, including
Marymount’s Hiran Raj, a passionate rapper with five years of performance experience.

A spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky while residents welcome the
New Year with their families and friends.

Boon Lay Countdown 2025 – Be The Spark. A New Start

Themed “Be The Spark. A New Start”, event highlights include a Singapore Book of Records attempt with 3,000 LED clappers lit during the fireworks display and activities like Friendzone conversations and a photo wall for reflections on 2024 and aspirations for 2025.

About 100 River Valley High School students will be involved as planners and
facilitators for the event, and they will manage 10 engagement booths across two of the four event zones. Student volunteers will also assist mobility-challenged seniors to join in the countdown celebration.

The event will feature a ‘Journey Through Time’ countdown celebration spanning five decades. There will be nostalgic elements in fashion, food, technology, toys, and music, including retro snack booths, era-specific photobooth, classic game stations, and multi- racial performances. Residents are encouraged to come dressed in fashion of their favourite era to celebrate the New Year.

Residents can also look forward to a drone show, food trucks, carnival games and live performances by busker Jeff Ng, The ETC, and DJ Hojyn.

A Time Capsule will preserve 2024’s top trending items for future display at the new

Aligned with the event’s theme “Towards a Brighter Tomorrow”, residents will wave

The celebration will feature live performances by Monty Crew, Angel Vaishilee and

Led by community volunteers, the “SG60 Tapestry of Hope” initiative will be launched to encourage 2,025 residents to contribute well-wishes for Singapore’s 60th birthday.

The highlight of the night will be a community volunteer-coordinated New Year’s Eve Balloon Drop, where residents’ hopes for 2025 will be screened on the LED screen, as well as a display of fireworks at midnight.

The event will feature a pop-up musical instrument exhibition, showcasing at least 15 traditional instruments from our multicultural community. Residents will have the opportunity to explore and try these instruments.

Volunteers from the Marsiling Chinese Orchestra, Marsiling MAEC Interest Group Kompang Anang Sukma, and NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble will showcase the vibrant flavours of diverse musical heritages through live demonstrations. Residents will also have the chance to sign up and express their interest in joining these interest groups.

There will be live performances by artistes including Joanna Dong, Shigga Shay, Maia
Lee, and Ben Hum.

Families can enjoy carnival games and bouncy castles while residents can ring in the
New Year with a spectacular fireworks display.

Both children and adults can look forward to painting murals or contributing to a giant community canvas at the “Glow Up” zone which will showcase Nee Soon’s iconic structures and timeline.

Residents will get to interact with a Media Art Installation Wall where they can activate pre-programmed animations through touch, offering an engaging, hands-on exploration of Nee Soon’s past, present, and future.

There will be a drone show, carnival rides and games, live performances by JumpStart,
53A, Huda, and Stephen Zechariah, as well as a fireworks display to usher in the New
Year.
