Jointly presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the 10th edition of Marina Bay Singapore Countdown will usher in Singapore’s Golden Jubilee this New Year’s Eve with more wishes to be collected on a record 25,000 wishing spheres that will be set afloat in Marina Bay.
Five thousand red spheres will be included for the first time to form a giant number ’50’ in the Bay.
Members of the public can pen their wishes on the wishing spheres from 1 November at the 31 wishing stations around the island.
This year’s countdown will feature video projections on the façade of The Fullerton Hotel and the Merlion. Close to 400 drummers will also perform “live” to specially-commissioned music as the event culminates in an eight-minute firework display at midnight.
Red and White Wishing Spheres in Commemoration of Sg50
To commemorate Singapore’s 50th year of independence, 5,000 red spheres will be set afloat in the Bay to form a giant number ’50’ amidst a sea of 20,000 white spheres.
The wishing spheres will be installed in phases from mid- November and will be lit from 26 to 31 December. The spectacular visual installation will carry thousands of wishes from the public made for Singapore’s future.
From 1 November, the public can pen their hopes and wishes for the nation and their loved ones on the wishing spheres at 31 wishing stations set up across the island. Netizens and Singaporeans overseas can also make virtual wishes at www.marinabaycountdown.sg from 7 November.
The wishing spheres are sponsored for the first time by The Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd. Refer below
3D Projection Mapping Shows on the Fullerton Hotel and the Merlion
This year, the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown will feature special 3D projection mapping displays on the façade of Fullerton Hotel Singapore and the Merlion. The video projection show will depict the growth and development of Singapore from past to present. From 26 to 31 December, the short shows will run between 8pm and 12am nightly.
On New Year’s Eve, the public can look forward to the final showcase beginning at 11.55pm that culminates in a countdown sequence to midnight, followed immediately by an eight-minute firework display.
Live Drumming Performed to Fireworks Music
The firework display will be specially choreographed to a score composed by two up-and-coming Singaporean music talents, Julian Wong and Riduan Zalani, under the guidance of renowned musician Iskandar Ismail.
This year, a special segment of the music will feature close to 400 drummers who will perform ‘live’ at the lower boardwalk in front of the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, adding a resounding beat to the music and firework display. The public can tune in to MediaCorp radio station Symphony 92.4FM to listen to the music as they watch the firework display.
Early countdown revellers can enjoy drum performances from 6pm onwards on New Year’s Eve. The public can also participate in drum circles to try their hands at creating rhythms with hand-held percussion instruments.
