Take charge and take extra care
- Foot care is essential as diabetics have higher risk of foot problems. Wash them daily and keep dry. Maintain short toenails and clip them straight across to prevent ingrown toenails. Moisturize your feet daily to prevent dryness and cracking of the skin.
- Go for regular eye check at least once a year. Diabeties can cause severe eye problems such as diabetic retinopathy where the small blood vessels in the eyes become damaged. Early detection allows doctors to perform Laser Photocoagulation to prevent further damage.
- Engage in regular physical activity is an important control. It helps to prevent the onset of complications by maintaining a healthy heart and the recommended weight. Stop bad habits like smoking. Limiting your intake of alcohol helps greatly too as it interferes with your meal plan and blood glucose control.
