The People’s Association (PA) will be making available insect repellents at all Community Clubs (CCs) across Singapore for pregnant women from Saturday, 10 September 2016.

This will enable pregnant women to easily and quickly get their hands on insect repellents even as retailers replenish their stocks in light of the high demand for repellents. The PA notes that many mothers-to-be shared their concerns with our grassroots leaders and volunteers at community events and during house visits.

PA has worked with National Environment Agency (NEA) and Ministry of Health (MOH) to secure 30,000 bottles of 30ml travel-sized insect repellents.

Pregnant women who are unable to purchase insect repellents through the retail stores can collect one travel-sized bottle of repellent spray at any CC convenient to them. The travel-sized bottle can last about three days of regular application by one person. This contingency measure should help tide pregnant women over until the repellents are replenished at the retail stores.

To collect the bottle, pregnant women will need to show their maternity appointment card.

Please check with your nearest CC for their opening hours. You can search for your CC here.

1. Who can redeem the repellents?

All mums-to-be who do not have access to repellents can claim them from their nearest CCs.

2. If my mother or wife is unable to come down to the CC for collection, can I collect on her behalf?

Yes. You will need to bring the expecting mother’s maternity appointment card from the hospital or gynaecologist that she is seeing for her pregnancy.

3. How many repellents can each mum-to-be redeem

Each expecting mother can redeem one bottle of insect repellent, while stocks last.

4. Can senior or vulnerable residents redeem a bottle?

The repellents are only meant for mums-to-be as they are most vulnerable to the Zika virus. We seek everyone’s understanding on this.
