What the latest movement means

A lower COE premium does not guarantee an equal reduction in a vehicle’s advertised or final price. Compare the complete purchase and ownership budget, including the vehicle price, registration-related taxes and fees, motor insurance, financing cost, road tax, servicing, parking, fuel or charging expenses, and any conditions attached to dealer packages, rebates or trade-ins.

In percentage terms, Category A recorded the largest decline at about 2.3%, followed by Category C at about 1.2% and Category B at about 0.8%. The latest result only partly reversed the gains from the 8 Jul 2026 bidding exercise: all five categories remained above their levels in the 17 Jun 2026 bidding exercise, while Categories D and E extended their increases.

Historical context and recent pattern ๐Ÿ“ˆ

The 22 Jul pullback followed record highs in Category A at S$129,000 and Category C at S$95,000 during the 8 Jul 2026 bidding exercise. Category A is now S$3,000 below that peak but remains the fourth-highest result in LTA’s historical workbook from 2010 onwards. Category C is S$1,111 below its record and remains the third-highest result over the same period.

Category B at S$129,890 remains S$20,111 below its peak of S$150,001, while Category E is S$28,033 below its S$158,004 peak. Both records were set during the 18 Oct 2023 bidding exercise. Category D remains S$2,987 below its motorcycle peak of S$13,189 from the 9 Nov 2022 bidding exercise.

What each COE category covers

Category A covers non-fully electric cars up to 1,600cc and up to 97kW, plus fully electric cars up to 110kW.

Category B covers non-fully electric cars above 1,600cc or above 97kW, plus fully electric cars above 110kW.

Category C is for goods vehicles and buses.

Category D covers motorcycles.

Category E is the Open Category, excluding motorcycles.

Official datasets, PDF summaries and Excel workbooks may take time to reflect a newly closed bidding exercise.

Review the category that matches the intended vehicle type, compare the movement against the previous exercise and factor the premium into the full ownership budget. The next decision should consider total vehicle cost rather than the COE figure alone. ๐Ÿš˜
