The Istana grounds will be open to the public on Saturday, 1 February 2014, from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, in celebration of Chinese New Year.

Visitors can enjoy performances such as Dragon Dance, Wushu, Qiao Hua Dan (俏花旦) dance, acrobatics and other items put up by volunteers. The Singapore Zoo will also showcase Ploughshare Tortoises together with some species of snakes.

A new Nature Guided Walk at the Istana – a collaboration between the President’s Office and the National Parks Board (NParks) to showcase the Istana’s flora, fauna and biodiversity – will be launched at the open house. The walks will be led by NParks volunteers.

Members of the public can also tour selected function rooms in the Istana main building to view a display of gifts presented to the President and the Prime Minister by foreign dignitaries. Guided tours of the Istana main building will be conducted by the Preservation of Sites and Monuments (PSM) volunteers.

Entry to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents. All others visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person. Entry to the Istana grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. The nearest MRT station is Dhoby Ghaut.

Istana souvenirs will also be on sale during the Open House.

Proceeds from the sale of souvenirs and all entrance fees collected will be donated to charity.

The following items will not be allowed within the Istana grounds for security reasons: Pointed and sharp objects (e.g. knives of any size, forks) and Flammable items (e.g. lighters)

To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all visitors, and to prevent damage to the premises, the following activities will not be allowed within the Istana grounds:

  • Wheeled sports (e.g. cycling, roller blading)
  • Littering
  • Smoking
  • Consumption of alcoholic drinks
  • Pets (except for guide dogs)

No storage facilities will be provided. Security personnel reserve the right to turn away visitors who bring along items that are not allowed.

All visitors will need to go through security screening prior to entering the Istana grounds.

The sale of tickets to enter the Istana Main Building will close at 5.30pm, subject to crowd conditions.
