  1. Fierce Promotion When Only 1 Item Available

I am hugely disappointed with the marketing approach used by IMM in the current I’MM Rewarded loyalty promotion. After weeks of promoting the offer of redeeming a free Xbox 360 by being a regular shopping at mall, there was only 1 item up for grabs.

Legally, no wrongful act has been done since shoppers was able to redeem the item, but having only ONE available crosses the boundary of ethical advertising. What hurts ever more is the disappointment on the kids faces today when they see the “Fully Redeemed” signed on the redemption board, and knowing that after all that anticipation of getting the Xbox for free has gone down the drain. I have personally seen a few families excited to redeem the game console, and a young girl even told her dad she promised to do well for her exams if he got her the popular gaming system.

We all know these freebies and fantastic offers are usually one a first come first serve and on a while stocks last basis. Some organizations will also advertise the number of items available to inform potential customers, giving them as much information as possible to facilitate decision making. Sad to say CapitaMalls Asia was more interested in driving up the hype then making their shoppers happy. The phase that sums it all up would be, “I’MM Disappointed”

Author is a person who wanted to get the game console as a gift for a family, and was the second in the queue on the morning of 6th Aug 2012. And he left empty handed.
