Singapore, 14 July, 2011 — Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) today announced that it will be adding three new targeted channels to its mio TV service.
“We actively seek to provide a well-rounded selection of channels and programmes to enrich our customers’ viewing. The addition of these three quality channels is testament to this,” said Mr Goh Seow Eng, Chief, Digital Home, SingTel. “We are especially pleased to introduce our first dedicated travel and rugby channels as our customers have indicated that they are passionate about these genres.”
Travel Channel (Channel 21), is guaranteed to win instant fans with its diverse and captivating programme line-up. The channel, which is available in over 100 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East transports viewers to every corner of the globe on exclusive luxury getaways, eco-friendly holidays and backpacking adventures.
Inspirational, informative and entertaining, Travel Channel presents a uniquely panoramic and objective perspective on the travel experience.
Trabant Trek, for example, shows nine young adventurers of various nationalities squeeze in three Trabants, infamous as the world’s worst cars, and attempt to drive over 17,000 miles from Hungary to Cambodia. The only self-taught mechanic on the trip knows nothing about fixing them. The trek descends into chaos after roughly one mile and continues in the same vein towards Cambodia, fuelled by in-fighting, cheap vodka and disintegrating cars.
Adventure travelers will be thrilled by programmes like Planet Sports and World’s Greatest Motorcycle rides, while awe-inspiring documentaries such as Distant Shores and Angry Planet take viewers to the world’s most eye-popping locations.
Mr Goh added, “The addition of these three channels further strengthens mio TV’s content offering, adding to the largest on-demand library of latest movies, most current US TV series, documentaries, entertainment and of course, the top sports coverage. Our aim is to not to acquire content randomly but carefully curate a suite of complimentary channels and on-demand programmes to give time-strapped individuals the specific information and entertainment they need.”
Ardent Rugby fans, for example, can now get their fill of rucks, mauls and tackles on mio TV with the launch of Setanta Sports (Channel 120), the new rugby channel for Asia.
Setanta Sports is packed with live rugby from around the world including every match of the Tri Nations in July and August featuring the mighty All Blacks, Australia and South Africa, the finals of the Super Rugby, the Six Nations – Europe’s annual international tournament, The Currie Cup, ITM Cup, Aviva Premiership, Anglo-Welsh Cup and Pro-12 (previously Magners League), as well as live Rugby League from the NRL and State Of Origin.
With over 500 exclusive rugby matches from both the Northern & Southern Hemispheres, Setanta Sports offers an action packed line-up of rugby throughout the year.
To cater to the fast growing Indian community here, mio TV has added TIMES NOW (Channel 48), India’s number one English news channel. Presented in a vivid and insightful manner, the channel caters to the Indian diaspora, who will now be able to receive the latest breaking news and analysis. This marks the channel’s first foray into South East Asia.
TIMES NOW features 24-hour news coverage, starting with The Morning News which covers local and international news, including technology and sports updates. Weekend shows include The Foodie, a show dedicated to teasing viewers’ taste buds and Times Drive, a lifestyle magazine show for car lovers.
How to Subscribe
Current mio TV customers can subscribe to the new channels directly by using the mio TV on-screen guide or by contacting the SingTel Hotline at 1610 which operates daily from 8.00am to 10.00pm. For new subscribers, sign-ups for mio TV services are available at any SingTel Retail Store or at SingTel exclusive retailers.
Subscription to Travel Channel costs $5.35/month or $4.28/month on a 12-monthly basis. TIMES Now is priced at $6.42/month or $5.35/month on a 12-monthly basis. Both channels will be made available to all mio TV subscribers for the first month.
New Sports Pack, mio Home Sports and Ultimate Pack subscribers can request to receive Setanta Sports free for the first 12 months of their contract. This promotion ends on 23October 2011. mio Stadium, ESPN STAR Sports, Twin Pack and Combo Pack subscribers can add on the channel for $9.90/month on a 12-monthly basis.
